Mickleover Methodist Church is a vibrant and welcoming community located in the suburbs of Derby.
Our mission is to develop a church family that is continually growing in Christian faith, worship, and outreach so that all may know the love of God through Christ. We have an extensive program of activities for children and families. We have a wide range of activities for our older members, which focus on spiritual, social, and informative activities.

Tracey is the minister of Mickleover Methodist Church. In her spare time, she enjoys walking her two dogs, playing the piano and spending time with family.

Paula is the Church, Community and Outreach Worker at Mickleover Methodist Church. When not at work she is busy running Girls’ Brigade, looking after her family, and enjoying cuddles with her cat Saffron!

Cathy Brokenshire, Church Administrator
Cathy is the administrator at Mickleover Methodist Church and works Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings. In her spare time, she enjoys going to the gym, cooking, and spending time with her family, including one dog, Molly, and two cats; Mimitu and Jiji!

Why are we Christians?
We are Christians because we believe that the Jesus of history embodied God’s love, and therefore revealed God to the world. We seek to follow Jesus’ example by always welcoming those who seek to pursue goodness, and find wholeness in their lives, so that they can experience his promise of life with fulfilment.
We seek to learn from, sharing our ideas with, and serving all people in the name of Jesus Christ, irrespective of age, disability, ethnicity, economic power, gender, sexuality, or nationality.
Our Building
Mickleover Methodist Church has had buildings on this site since 1914. It has always had close relationships with the Mickleover community and has tried to provide facilities, services and events that meet its needs.
The current Methodist Church Centre, which was officially opened in September 2001, was designed to further develop that tradition into the new century. It incorporates a Chapel, a dividable large hall, a small hall, offices, a modern kitchen, extensive audio-visual equipment and full facilities for children and people with disabilities.
Regular community users include Church Groups, our Preschool and children’s and families groups, Scouts and Girls’ Brigade. Other organisations also use it on both a regular and casual basis.
To encourage community involvement, a Social Area is open for users of the building and other members of the community.
The Chapel seats up to 145 people in comfortable, movable seating. The organ and the cross from the previous building are incorporated into the design. Extensive audio-visual facilities are installed including the ability to project video and electronic pictures and text on a 3 metre screen.
The Large Hall is the one remaining part of the previous buildings. It is approximately 10 x 20 metres in size and is capable of seating 160 people. A partition can be used to give two equally sized rooms when required. It is used mainly for the activities of young people. An audio system and an induction loop are available and an audio -visual link to the chapel is installed.
The Crèche is specially designed and furnished for toddlers’ activities. It is used for the Methodist Preschool during the weekdays and as a crèche for worship.
The Kitchen is central to the building and is well equipped with oven, hobs, freezer, fridge and dish washer. It meets modern hygiene standards and can be used for preparing refreshments or full meals.
The church office is on the first floor of the building. Outside the office there is a large lounge area for informal meetings. Disabled access to the first floor is provided by a lift.
Our History
Methodism has been active in Mickleover since the beginning of the 19th Century. The first Chapel on the current site was constructed in 1914 to replace the original Wesleyan Methodist Church which was built on The Green in 1820.
In 1932 the Primitive Methodist Church in Park Road closed and joined the Wesleyans as part of Methodist Union.
Significant extensions were made in 1954, when the large Hall, kitchen and two meeting rooms at the back of the site were built, and 1969,when the Morford Hall and the Youth Hall to provide a centre for the fast growing Mickleover community at that time.
In the early 1990s it became clear that the building was deteriorating and was inadequate to meet the future needs. Plans for redevelopment started, including fund raising and the purchase of property adjoining the Chapel.
